this is a basic outline of how to cook rice on the stove. |

Long grain (basmati, etc..) 1:2 ratio of rice to water. |

short grain (calrose, jasmine, etc) 1:1.75 ratio of rice to water. |

|
|

|
shortest grain (japanese sushi rice, high polish rice) 1:1 |

add oil to pan and any spices. Always use a single bay leaf per cup of rice. |

|
temper spices. skip this step if no spices but bay used. |

mix rice with oil in pan to coat. Add water and bring to boil covered. |

|
|
|
|
|
|

Once the rice and water are boiling drop to the lowest setting on your stovetop |

and cook 20 minutes. |
