  1. 4 cups chopped cabbage, tightly packed
  2. 2 potatoes, peeled and cubed
  3. paste of 2 green chilies and a small piece of ginger
  4. 1/2 tsp turmeric pwd
  5. 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  6. 1 tsp coriander powder
  7. salt to taste
  8. 1 tsp grated jaggery or brown sugar
  9. 1 tbsp lemon juice
  10. chopped coriander leaves for garnish
  11. 1 1/2 tbsps oil
  12. For tempering/poppu/tadka:
  13. 1 tsp mustard seeds/ria/aavalu
  14. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds/jeera/jeelakara
  15. 1/4 tsp asafoetida/hing/inguva
  16. few fresh curry leaves
  17. add oil, spices, garlic to pan, simmer
  18. add the rest of the ingredients, simmer covered 20 minutes.
